Profile Summary

The Leo Media & Entertainment Group is a law firm that specialises in the media business. Its client list comprises mostly production companies, other players in the fim & TV world, or authors whose work has crossed from the literary sector into the broadcast arena.
Alex Sullivan is the CEO at Leo Media and is the public face of the company.

The firm does offer a number of purely literary services, albeit mostly ones relating to screenplays. For example, the firm offers to edit or rewrite sreenplays (for both TV and film), as well as offering detailed feedback on screen work, detailed development work and mentoring, reformatting and translation.

The firm’s website states that these services are also available to authors of literary work, and it’s clear that the firm has indeed worked in some capacity wth novelists and authors of non-fiction. Nevertheless, we’d note that the firm is not a regular literary agency, in the sense that its bread and butter work does not involve selling fiction and non-fiction MSS to publishing houses at home and abroad – and it’s also clear that its passion and excellence lies mostly with the world of the screen.

Writers seeking an ordinary literary agent for regular manuscripts should probably try their luck elsewhere. If you are (for example) a novelist wanting to see your work on screen at some stage, you should probably also work with a regular literary agency as they will either (A) have a film side of their own, or (B) have a close working relationship with an agency specialising in film & TV. Additionally, you’re most likely to see your work on screen if it’s being well published by a major publisher . . . and for most writers that wll mean starting out with a standard literary agent workking at a standard literary agency.

Other loves & passions:

'Love: the art of the deal!' Sullivan is quoted as saying, 'The main drive behind Leo Media was to be one of the first entities in the world to be a One-Stop Shop for the film and literary industries. We all know there are sales agents who do distribution, literary agents who find publishers, script editors who comment on screenplays and teleplays, casting agents who find actors, film solicitors to do legal work, etc. Until Leo Media, there wasn't really one place which could cover all of these areas under one roof. We're also looking for ways to say Yes, we'll do it, rather than excuses not to take on a project, which is the case with too many literary agencies and similar.'

How to make a submission:
Agency standard submission.
Other advice and background:

How important is it for a writer to take the time to tailor their submission when targeting agents? Extremely. We take a tailored submission far, far more seriously than a mass-marketed e-mail. What is the most common mistake you see in submissions to your agency? People asking 'How do we submit something to you?' - when it's clear on our website. On average how many submissions do you receive in your inbox a week? 20-30 book submissions and around 10-20 screenplay submissions
