Profile Summary

Not currently accepting unsolicited submissions

Caroline Montgomery manages the Rupert Crew Agency alongside her mother, Doreen Montgomery.  She has worked at Rupert Crew for over twenty years.  Caroline doesn’t have much of an online profile outside of the agency website, but here are the main nuggets of information unearthed by our researchers:

  • She has a degree in Classics and History of Art
  • Started her publishing career as an editorial assistant at Arrow, where she worked across their fiction and non-fiction lists
  • Joined the agency world as an assistant at Elaine Greene (now known as Greene and Heaton)
  • In 1993, joined the family business as an agent.  We believe she mainly works on the agency’s fiction list
  • Unfortunately, the agency does not divide its client list by agent so it is difficult to analyse her literary tastes in detail.  Examples of current fiction authors include thriller writer Lesley Anne Sharrock (The Truth Lies Buried); Cathi Unsworth (Noir thriller ‘Without the Moon’); June Francis (Women’s commercial fiction ‘A Mother’s Duty’); and young adult author Echo Freer (‘Toxic Treacle’ and the ‘Magenta’ series)
  • Be aware that the agency doesn’t handle Short Stories, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Poetry or Theatre, Television and Film
  • Caroline has also served on the committee of the Association of Authors’ Agents
  • We are always keen to add to our profiles so if any subscribers are able to provide additional date on Caroline we would love to hear from you

About the agency:
F. Rupert Crew started his life as an agent, so the story goes, from a shed in his parents' North West London house. Originally launched under the heading The Author's Advisory Service, Rupert, who had great creative skills as an agent, was joined for a short period by his brother, Frank, and later by his wife, Kathleen, who became responsible for the agency's fiction intake. By the 1930s the agency's offices could be found in Gray's Inn Place and subsequently in Warwick Court, moving on, having been bombed-out during the Blitz in 1940, to King's Mews, which stayed as the company's home until 2010 when we moved to new premises in leafy North London. The agency's name was changed to that of its founder in 1947.
