Agency details

Website:
http://abnerstein.co.uk/
About the agency:
In 1971 Abner Stein set up his eponymous agency. The Abner Stein Agency was, and has remained, unique because it was built on a co-agenting model, jointly representing authors in conjunction with another (almost invariably American) agency. Stein died in 2011 and the agency is now run as a partnership by his daughter Arabella, as well as Sandy Violette and Caspian Dennis. As an agency, Abner Stein largely represents American and Australian authors on behalf of their principal agents and publishers and therefore the agency has been fortunate enough to represent the widest range of historical authors from Jean Plaidy to the latest Orange Prize winner Madeline Miller, Nancy Bilyeau and Gillian Bagwell. Arabella Stein has stepped down from the agency. The agency has recently represented non-fiction writers such as Mark Borden and Andrew Scott Cooper, and fiction writers such as Laura Lippman, James Sallis, Noah Hawley and South Korean-born author Krys Lee.

More info on this agency:
This is an unusual agency, in that its client list is almost entirely made up of US agents and publishers, who use Abner Stein as their sales agent in the UK & Commonwealth. Although the agency does continue to handle a (small, small) list of local clients, it's not an outfit that is looking to add local clients from slushpile type submissions. In short: send your work elsewhere. Abner Stein is not the pace for you.
