Profile Summary

Cassian Hall founded and runs the North Literary Agency in Edinburgh, which now sits under the DHH Literary Agency. We recommend approaching Cassian if you a) live in Scotland or b) have a particular interest in television and film. While Cassian does work with prose writers, the bulk of his experience is in television and film, making him uniquely qualified to mentor screenwriters in any stage of their career.

Trained as an archeologist, Cassian is always eager to find manuscripts covering history and archeology in both fiction and non-fiction. His passion for this area has also seen him working for Time Team (Channel 4). As such, when it comes to non-fiction submissions, anything with history or archeology as a focus will grab Cassian's attention, though other subjects will also be considered.

Cassian also represents fiction and screenwriting. In fiction, his tastes are broad, covering historical fiction, crime, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, and adventure. When it comes to pinpointing what he is looking for, Cassian highlights strong characters and plots. Do note that when submitting screenwriting for consideration, you should submit the entire script. On his website, Cassian provides a handy list of questions writers should ask themselves about their work before crafting a cover letter and submitting their manuscript. We recommend you take note of these.

He is particularly invested in mentoring young and new writers, something Cassian has started doing in conjunction with Edinburgh Napier University and other Scottish writing programs. To further his work in this area, Cassian also works with a number of events to bring TV, film, and prose writing talent to the region.
