Profile Summary

Gillie began her career in childrens publishing, first at Methuen, before becoming for an impressive ten years Publishing Director of Childrens Fiction at industry giant HarperCollins. When there, she handled countless major names, including Michael Morpurgo, Louise Rennison, Darren Shan, and others.

As an agent, shes still in the process of adding to her list. A post from 2011 reports her as wanting to find a strong voice above all another Michael Morpurgo, please! Shes not into fantasy, and holds up her own clients, Moira Young (Blood Red Road) and David Lowne (Socks are Not Enough) as examples of the kind of voice she loves. Both books did very well and won or were shortlisted for significant awards.

Other known clients include:

Tom Hoyle, the pseudonym taken by a headmaster not wanting to reveal his true identity Debbie McCune, author of what is, in fact, fantasy fiction, although with one foot firmly set in present day reality Jane Hardstaff, author of historical fiction set in Tudor England Kevin Wignall, a writer of crime/thrillers for a YA audience.

Russell does have a Twitter feed but when we last checked it has just two tweets on it, the most recent more than a year old. She says she loves books, theatre and being by the sea.

Were aware that this profile offers relatively scant information for a major agent at a major agency and we will do what we can to invite further info. In the meantime, if there are AH users who can tell us more were all ears.
