Profile Summary

Isabel established her agency, Creative Authors, in 2008. While she is the only agent there, she works with two consultant editors, Alice Smales and Ged Adamson (picture books), as well as enlisting the help of digital marketing guru Kate Ormand. A personal and thorough service is something Isabel prides herself on, and as such, she only takes on a few new clients every year.

Hopeful authors should be aware of Isabel's watchwords: original, unusual, commercial. She is very taken with ideas that come a bit left of field but have ample potential in the commercial space. For instance, one of her first clients was the author of a cookbook on jelly (or jello, if you are American). After all, jelly hadn't been written about much in recent years!

Outside of being truly unique, there are few areas of fiction or non-fiction that Isabel isn't interested in. She represents writers of adult and children's books, from literary and women's to genre and crime fiction. In non-fiction, Isabel is on the lookout for history, biography, cookery, business, health, natural history, humour, and popular culture manuscripts.

Isabel highlights some of the services she provides:

  • Assessing and editing manuscripts
  • Negotiating contracts and advances
  • Knowledge of the industry and publishing trends
  • Rights and permissions, including translations, other territories, digital rights, and Film/TV
  • Knowledge of publicity and marketing

Isabel is also a writer of children's picture books, including Zombie Cat, Ruby Moo’s Deep-Sea Adventure, Smelly Ghost, and The Bad Easter Bunny.
