Profile Summary

With a background in marketing and public relations, Kate is well versed in navigating tricky relationships. As a romance writer herself, she also has valuable experience of publishing from the perspective of the 'talent'. In 2009, Kate set up the Kate Nash Literary Agency, expanding to include a secondary agent, Sarah Taylor, in 2012.

Kate is actively involved in a number of romance writing communities, such as The Festival of Romantic Fiction, Love Stories Awards, and more. Keeping her finger on the pulse, Kate knows what sells and what the readers want to see more of. Having also published seven romance novels herself (as Kate Allan), she knows the ins and outs of the industry from multiple angles.

Though romance fiction is a particular passion, with many authors on her roster writing historical romance or romantic comedies, Kate welcomes all commercial fiction. The agency does not list out which agent represents which authors, but lists a total of twenty current clients. Her clients include bestselling authors such as Sue Fortin and a number of award winners, such as Mandy Baggot and Jane Lovering.

There are many opportunities to meet Kate, as she regularly attends both romance-specific and more general literary festivals, including The Writers' Workshop Festival of Writing. She is always on the lookout for new talent at such events, so they are an excellent opportunity for you to pitch your ideas to you. If interested, she may prompt you to send through a submission following your conversation.

As with all smaller agencies, it is best to ascertain whether your manuscript suits the agent's taste. They will receive a high number of submissions while only being able to take on a handful of new clients each year. Kate loves a hands-on approach with her clients, preferring to deal with writers based in the UK. She will consider clients from abroad but will want you to explain why you want to be represented by an overseas agent.
