Profile Summary

Laura MacDougall is a relatively new agent at Tibor Jones.  She worked her way up the publishing tree via a degree and MA at Oxford (Classics), a stint in Italy as a teacher and translator, and an editorial position in the fiction department of Hodder and Stoughton.

At Hodder, she worked with Stephen King and David Nicholls and was also responsible for setting up and managing Hodder’s historical fiction community. Her list at Hodder included debut novelists, Julie Sarkissian and Martine Bailey and bestselling crime writer, Mons Kallentoft.

She is interested in historical and crime fiction, debut literary novels and fiction in translation. In non-fiction, she is keen to represent cookery and food writing, art, travel, memoir, popular culture and history.  Other interests include theatre, film, art, music and comedy. She is NOT interested in children’s books, fantasy or science fiction.

Laura writes about the London arts scene on her blog and has written for Exeunt, Litro, Standard Issue and Polari magazines.  She contributes to LGBT arts and culture show Out in South London.

Laura helps Kevin Conroy Scott to manage Wilbur Smith and is also actively looking for new clients for her own list.  Given her previous experience at Hodder, we think she would be a great choice of agent for writers of crime and historical fiction.  Laura’s blog and twitter feed @L_MacDougall are regularly updated, and worth perusing if you want to find out more about her.

About the agency:
Tibor Jones & Associates was founded in 2007 by Kevin Conroy Scott as a literary agency and arts consultancy dedicated to building the careers of the serious authors and creatives of his generation. The ambition of the company is to keep a small list of authors and help those authors achieve their vision wherever their ideas take them. The company name is a dedication to two people: Tibor Kalman, the late graphic designer who said, 'I do something once and I fuck it up, I do it a second time and I get it right and the third time I move on. If you do this you can achieve an incredible ecstasy of learning.' And Nerys Jones, an author of profound character who passed away unexpectedly before the company was established.
