Profile Summary

Laura studied English at Sussex, then at Oregon State in the US. After short spells working as a bookseller, she joined David Higham in 2005, initially working on the film & TV side, but switching – happily – to the books side.

Laura is the digital manager at David Higham, but is also building her own list of authors, which includes – but isn’t limited to – children’s and young adult authors.

She doesn’t have a huge list at present, so it’s hard to be very specific about her tastes, but currently she represents:

•    Carl Goodman, an author of techno-thrillers
•    Charlie Lyne, a film-maker with an interest in the coming of age movie
•    Coco Moodysson, a Swedish YA author
•    Sarah Perry, a poet currently working on her first novel
•    Peter Utton, a writer/illustrator of children’s books
•    Alix Wenmouth, author of ‘fresh and feisty’ YA fiction

Her Twitter feed also namechecks books and authors including Fire Colour One by Jenny Valentine; the Kamikaze Hunters by Will Iredale; A Song for Issy Bradley by Carys Bray; Flash Boys by Michael Lewis.

Laura has a particular soft spot for teen fiction, but writers can certainly approach her with a wide variety of other genres, including non-fiction. She is seeking to build her list, so may be more ready to take on new clients than many other agents.
