Profile Summary

Liane-Louise joined the Furniss Lawton agency in 2012 as an assistant before becoming the Foreign Rights Manager in 2014. Her previous experience in the industry included working as a Rights Assistant and Contract Assistant at Random House. The agency website does not call out what specific agents are looking for or even if Liane-Louise also acts as an agent. All submissions go to the one collective slushpile.

With two degrees in linguistics and proficiency in French, Spanish, and Italian as well as her native English tongue, it's obvious Liane-Louise's passion for the written word stretches further than the local bookstore's shelves. As she can converse with international publishers and agents in their language, she is the perfect person to represent works in foreign markets.

Furniss Lawton is particularly interested in commercial fiction, including crime, thrillers, historical, reading group, romance, and young adult. They describe their taste as a preference for resonant, impactful, and dynamic writing involving strong voice, plot, and characters. Something with real emotional intensity will be sure to grab their attention.

The agency also accepts non-fiction submissions. Again their interests are wide, open to seeing manuscripts focused on politics, science, humour, sport, culture, cooking, business, or even biography. Similarly, they would love to see an engaging memoir make it onto their slush pile.

Do take note that while the agency proudly states they represent writers for 'Call the Midwife' and 'Mr. Selfridge', they do not represent screenwriters. Hard copy submissions are not accepted, so ensure you follow the standard agency submission guidelines.
