Profile Summary

Lizzy Kremer started out as a junior publicist in publishing, before making the leap to agenting first at the Ed Victor agency (where she stayed for seven years) and then at David Higham, which she joined in 2004. She became a director of the firm in 2006. She co-authored the Dummies Guide to Writing A Novel (which came out in 2007, but which has been recently updated and reissued.)

Lizzy is best known for her list of women’s fiction – and she speaks here about the experience of reading romantic fiction – and her authors include Polly “Yummy Mummy” Williams, Milly Johnson, Katy Regan, Kirsty Crawford, and many others

She also represents non-fiction in a roughly similar vein – for example, jennifer Cox’s Around The World in 80 Dates, or Mimi Spencer’s 101 Things To Do Before You Diet.

Lizzy also represents:

•    Crime fiction, such as Only The Innocent and other works by e-publishing hit Rachel Abbott. If you are contemplating sending your crime/thriller work to Lizzy, we strongly recommend that you read her discursive post on the subject here. Note that Lizzy has an active interest in enlarging her crime list.
•    More serious non-fiction, such as work by Amber Marks on the surveillance society, or Ophelia Field’s historical non-fiction

In a recent interview with the Society of Authors, Lizzy said, “I am not taking on many authors at the moment but  . .  I am open to anything, really, as long as it's emotionally honest and has a strong, compelling plot or a believable voice . . . I'd love to represent an author writing about big life dilemmas. I'd also like to find more crime writers and of course more astonishingly good authors of literary fiction.”
Lizzy is active on Twitter and updates her blog most weeks, so we suggest that you get to know her a bit before submitting work to her.

Authors & books liked:

I have taken on a lot of authors in women's fiction. I think this has happened because I have such admiration and enjoyment for the whole genre. When I go on holiday, for example, I am just as likely to take a Jane Green or a Penny Vincenzi as a Booker short-listed novel.

Other advice and background:

I am particularly sensitive when it comes to self-conscious writers. If someone's writing displays a sense of self importance, or a need to prove something in style or content, then I'll often dismiss a book as over-written and under-confident
