Profile Summary

Mandy joined Miles Stott Children's Literary Agency (MSCLA) in late 2010. Before that, she worked as an editor for children's picture book lists at Puffin, Macmillan/Campbell Books, Orchard Books, and Gullane. As part of her publishing experience, Mandy was responsible for developing strategies for lists and working with content innovation for the digital age. Not wanting to lose sight of the creative side of the industry, in addition to Mandy's work as an agent, she also consults and creates picture books for major publishers with Rob Walster at The Story Works.

In the past five years, Mandy has made a name for herself as a very successful agent, a pleasure to work with, and someone able to find the best possible commercial route for her authors. The very first deal Mandy negotiated was a triumph, securing a four-book deal for the international bestseller and award-winning author/illustrator Rachel Bright. Since then she has gone from strength to strength, representing the likes of Carly Hart, Layn Marlow, Hannah Cumming, and Kate Alizadeh.

MSCLA represents all kinds of children's book authors and illustrators, from books for babies up until they become young adults. With this target audience in mind, their skills are varied in dealing with such a wide variety of end product: board books, picture books, novelty books, as well as traditional fiction books. At the time of writing, however, the agency's fiction list is full. They are currently only picture book submissions. Check their website for the most up-to-date information on what submissions they are looking for.

Mandy's insight into both sides of children's publishing, from the creative to the strategic, makes her singularly qualified to nurture writers and illustrators while finding them the best possible opportunities.
