Profile Summary

Nancy's career in children's publishing included working for many of the big publishing houses, with seven years at Hodder Children's Books as Rights Director. Deciding to step out from under the shadow of a well-established company, Nancy set-up the Miles Stott agency in 2003. While this was a new experience for her, she stuck to her strengths, focusing the agency on children's book writers and illustrators.

The agency is interested in everything from novelty books, picture books, works for six through twelve-year-olds as well as young adult fiction and other serialised works. Nancy is not the best agent at the agency to approach as an illustrator, as her client speciality is with writers. The Miles Stott team pride themselves on knowing the market inside and out, providing invaluable guidance to their authors - on both sides of the Atlantic.

Among Nancy's clients are award-winning author Daniel Wheelan, whose debut novel, Box of Demons, won Macmillan's 'Write Now Prize' and included cover artwork by incomparable Chris Riddell. Meanwhile, Frances Hardinge's 2015 novel The Lie Tree won The Sunday Times Children's Book of the Year as well as the 2015 Costa Book of the Year Award. Another of Nancy's success stories is genre pony fiction writer Stacy Gregg. Both of her series, currently coming in at 17 novels, have been bestsellers, with the Pony Club Secrets series recently optioned for television.

Nancy does not list her particular interests in what she would like to see coming through her inbox. As such, we suggest you look through her full client list to ascertain what might catch her eye. The agency website also contains tips for fiction and picture book writers, so make sure you read through these thoroughly before submitting your work.
