Profile Summary

After 10 plus years in the publishing industry, Peta decided to switch sides, becoming an agent at Lucas Alexander Whitley Ltd (LAW) agency in 2000. In 2013, she was put in charge of the company's new venture into being publishers as well as literary agents. With Peta's background in publishing, she has a keen interest in the editorial side of working with authors. Though her list is largely complete, if your work really speaks to her, she might make an exception!

The LAW agency represents the full gamut of fiction and non-fiction writers. The only work they won't consider is poetry, plays, and academic writing, with scripts for television and film only being represented for clients they take on initially for other work. On occasion, if an author crosses multiple genres and markets, agents with different specialties will handle a client together. Peta's specialty is in romance fiction and crime/thrillers. Some of the books she has represented include The Good Guy’s Guide to Getting The Girl by Peter Jones and Hopelessly Devoted to Holden Finn by Tilly Tennant.

Peta and her fellow agents at LAW are big proponents of the elevator pitch. If you can pitch your novel in three sentences, showing that you understand the market you're aiming for and grabbing their attention, you are way ahead of the pack. Make sure you work on this pitch before sending your cover letter as this is key to having Peta or her colleagues read your submission.

Outside of work, Peta is passionate about the outdoors. She loves to swim out in the wilds and has an active green thumb, as well as being a bee-keeper and avid bird-watcher. Peta is also a lover of great food, so it can't hurt to throw in some references to truly delectable meals!
