Profile Summary

Philippa's career began over 40 years ago when she joined Routledge and set up their cinema list. While there, she was also the driving force behind the creation of Pandora Press, a feminist non-fiction list. During her time helming that list, Philippa published the iconic feminist text, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson (1985). Since then, she has worked at Jonathan Cape and I.B. Tauris, where she has worked on World Cinema Series and Reading Contemporary Television Series. She now also works at Georgina Capel Associates Ltd. as a literary agent.

Not wanting to leave the industry side completely, Philippa currently splits her time between agenting and her work as Senior Editor for Visual Culture at I.B. Tauris. In 2014, Philippa was awarded the Kraszna-Krausz Foundation's Outstanding Contribution to Publishing award.

Georgina Capel Associates represent all manner of authors, from poets, novelists, journalists, philosophers, and children's writers. There's little off-limits with what they will consider on submission. Unfortunately, Agent Hunter was unable to find any specific details on Philippa's preferences or what she is looking for in submissions. However, from her past work as an editor focusing on feminism and cinema, it's a good bet that novels covering such topics would be of interest.

She is called out as a literary agent, but her passion for and experience in non-fiction work suggests these would be the better areas to approach her about. Philippa is committed to featuring women's writing and ensuring that feminism remains in the spotlight. From publishing Feminism and Popular Culture by Rebecca Munford and Melanie Waters to Old Mistresses by Parker and Pollock, she has kept up this focus in her publishing choices.
