Profile Summary

Please note this agent is not accepting unsolicited manuscripts at the moment

Rosemary Sandberg is a children’s book agent with a well-established client list.   Prior to joining the agent world, Rosemary worked in journalism and advertising.  She has a strong background in publishing and spent eighteen years in charge of Children’s paperbacks at HarperCollins (she also started the Puffin Club - alongside Kaye Webb).  Rosemary originally became an agent in association with publishing powerhouse Ed Victor (see our profile for more information).  She now has her own company and, as far as we know, is the only agent.  However, she does employ the services of senior editor, Jane Fior.

Rosemary has approximately 45 clients (two thirds illustrators, and one third writers).  She also represents a small selection of adult popular non-fiction, for example, Jocasta Innes).  Sadly, her online profile is fairly limited – there is no agency website and Rosemary herself has a mostly inactive social media presence (@rosemarysandber).  Without a website, it is difficult to delve too deeply into her literary preferences, however, we do know that her backlist includes illustrators like Patrick Benson, Jane Ray, Selina Young and Ian Andrew, and authors like Babette Cole, Elizabeth Laird and Pat Moon.  She also has a strong coterie of American authors and illustrators, including Rosemary Wells, Susan Jeffers and Steven Kellogg.

As an experienced agent, Rosemary has strong relationships with editors across publishing houses in the UK and the US.  She likes to offer writers and illustrators new career opportunities commenting that:  ‘One publisher may not be able to cope with all the things that an illustrator wants to do’.

Rosemary’s list is currently full but she advises new writers to ‘be incredibly self critical – to stand a chance you have got to produce something better than most of what is already published. The standard is so very high, and only the very best will be published.’
