Profile Summary

After a long and varied career in publishing, from working as a book designer to a publisher, Stephen now finds himself at Geraldine Cooke Agency. The business isn't your standard literary agency. While the staff do act as agents for clients, they are also an editorial services business. They also offer help with self-publishing if a publisher for your book can't be found.

The Geraldine Cooke Agency does not state a specialisation regarding fiction or non-fiction, let alone precise subject areas or genres. Other than a particular interest in Art and Architecture, Stephen's areas of expertise are given the very broad definition of 'general fiction and non-fiction'. Other than the company's website and a Twitter account that hasn't been updated since 2014, there's no information freely available on Stephen or the agency.

Given the lack of information available, we would recommend you try other agents and agencies first.

Geraldine Cooke Literary Agency
Agent since:

Short biography:
Stephen Davies has unusually wide-ranging publishing experience as Book Designer, Literary Agent and Commissioning Editor in prominent companies of London publishing.

At the BBC (where he also worked in television production) he was responsible for commissioning and editing many of the large illustrated books which accompany headlining documentary series. At Viking Penguin he specialised in Art and Architecture and general fiction and non-fiction. He retains an interest in working closely with authors to refine and focus their work -- and, unlike most editors, he remains closely involved in the design of books as well as their content.

More info on this agency:
Along with most literary agents: If a book has real value, but needs editing - even heavy editing - we can provide it. When it is ready to be shown to publishers, we can organise and advise on that. If it finds a publisher, we can, like any other agency, negotiate a contract for it. If a book cannot find a regular publisher, we can help you to self publish. Why are we different? If we can share an author's commitment to a book we enjoy the excitement of accompanying them on the whole journey from manuscript to the finished book. That is our job and our pleasure.
