Profile Summary

Vivien Green has been an agent at Sheil Land Associates since 1989.  She began her career as an agent at Richard Scott Simon Limited in 1971 (the firm was subsequently bought by Sheil Land).  Beyond the basic career facts, we have very little data on Vivien.  According to the agency website, Sheil Land agents are encouraged to keep a low profile and Vivien seems to have adhered to that.

As Vivien is one of the longest standing members of staff at the agency, we believe that she will already have a well-established list of clients.  Unfortunately, Sheil Land do not publish individual agent client lists so it is not possible to analyse her literary tastes in great detali. We do know, however, that Vivien represents former Dr Who star Tom Baker and the estates of best-selling historical novelist Patrick O’Brien and Booker Prize winner Barry Unsworth.  Other writers on her list include literary novelist Rachael Kind (The Sound of Butterflies) and women’s commercial fiction author Sarah Rayner (The Two Week Wait).  If you want to access current information about publications and authors at this agency we would recommend looking at their twitter feed @sheilland.

We have contacted Vivien to ask her to provide further details about her interests and will publish new information as soon as we have it.  In the meantime, if any Agent Hunter subscribers can offer more details we would love to hear from you!

About the agency:
Sheil Land Associates is a long established literary, theatrical and film agency dating back to 1962. We have fourteen staff including eight agents and their assistants, all of whom are strongly supported by friendly and experienced finance and administrative staff, making us one of the top five literary agencies in the UK. Despite the great list of clients that we have and the large deals that we negotiate, we believe in being a relatively low-profile agency. Our clients are the stars, and we are the advisors, quietly and proficiently guiding, negotiating and managing their interests. Our clients write quality, literary and commercial fiction and non-fiction including thrillers, crime/mystery, politics, political and military history, gardening, cookery, romance, drama, biography/memoir, travel, humour, all types of contemporary and literary women's fiction, self-improvement, mind-body-spirit, lifestyle, popular science and psychology, children's, young adult, science fiction, fantasy and paranormal, and we also represent celebrities and journalists with a story to tell. We represent playwrights, film and TV (including animation and children's) writers, documentary makers and directors, radio and TV presenters. A number of them also write successful books. We welcome approaches from new clients who have already published works as well as first time writers. The quality of submissions that we receive is tremendously high but it may be useful to point out that, however much we might wish to take on a new client, we have to bear in mind the very tough market conditions. Sadly we will have to make the difficult decision to turn down some exceedingly good writing. Should this happen to your submission, we hope you will not be discouraged as resourcefulness and perseverance has much to do with skill and talent to succeed. We are sometimes prepared to reconsider your revised work or your next work.

Further submission info:
Send a covering letter that is typed, properly constructed and checked for errors in spelling. The letter should be concise and you should be able to tell us your story/plot in a paragraph. For non-fiction, tell us why you have chosen this subject. Send a Synopsis of your work. This may be a page or more. Send a short Curriculum Vitae. We also want to know something about you: why you write; how long you have been writing for; whether you write in one genre/category or more. Choose the genre/category you hope to be first published in and send us material for the chosen area. Send the first three chapters of your manuscript. Double space your document with decent margins on either side. Pages must be numbered. Start each chapter on a new page. Do not print on both sides of the paper. Do not landscape your writing. Do not bind your work in a folder. A good paper clip/elastic band for all the papers is perfectly acceptable. Use a sensible font size. All submissions should be sent by post addressed to The Submissions Dept. We are sorry but we are unable to accept electronic submissions. If you are sending us a self-published work, please mention where your book is available to purchase, how many copies have been sold and what rights/territories are still available. Please do not send in any original artwork or photographs. Please send us your email address. All rejections and requests for full manuscripts will be made by email. If you are not contactable by email, please include a small stamped addressed envelope for our reply.
